WELL this page from this edition onwards will be dedicated to college students to vent out theirfrustrations, polish their trash talking skills, have discussions/face offs over mundane/intriguing issuesand etc. etc. Yeah hopefully you get the gist. So, this time round we wanted to know how studentspursuing different courses in Pune perceive Valentines as.

FERGUSON COLLEGE

I don’t know man. This Valentine’s business is all shit, it’s all commercial dude. I mean whyshould I have to spend money on a card and flowers for my girlfriend if I can take her to the chaitapri across the road? 5 rupay ki chai aur saal bhar ka quota poora. Anyway, look who gets tomake money off of my lovelife? Some fat CEO somewhere. Cheh. On the other hand, it wouldbe fun to piss off political parties that have an active interest in me getting some. Maybe wecould make out at the chai tapri…

You know what, Savera should have some kind of free lunch for couples from FC. We givethem business all the year round, ek din toh humaare liye kucch karna chahiye yaar. Yeah maybethat’s the best way to celebrate V Day, badgering the annas into providing meals out of the loveof their hearts. Isn’t that supposed to be the spirit anyway?

MITCOE

Love they say is strange and stranger even the way of lovers. In my college love is perhaps an alien, letloose upon a set of highly intellectual and diligent boys who struggled for MHCET and put a tough tussleonly to land themselves in this place full of attractiveness, charisma and wonder. The first experience ofleaving back folks and the pressures to be in an IIT appears alleviating. :p. And hence starts the magicof first love in an ignorance that never ends.  But pity the fate of love here in MIT; it always seems too little or too much. And while on valentines some are spending a mushy, cheesy good day withtheir girlfriends, others are just pondering upon how the hell can you handle love without turning your life

upside down?? But definitely the CCD, down college road is brimming with all the laughter and love and that faint air mixed in the aroma of brewing coffee and the milieu is still more romantic than anyother engineering college around. Yeah, we still believe that there’s nothing half as sweet in life as love is.

BJ MEDICAL COLLEGE

Entangled in a 4⅟₂ year long course and internship and rural-ship and what-not, a lot of us medicos eventually end up developing a soft corner for somebody or the other, and what do you know, some lucky/unlucky few even fall in love. At our BJMC I’d say Valentine’s Day celebrations are much of a personal affair than a college thing. At the most you’d see a few extra couples at the main gate of the college building or the ever popular girls’ hostel. Oh c’mon, we’re the lot who keep a separate corner in our wardrobe for our viva-wear (read, ugly formals). We don’t believe in over-the-top glitz. What does happen around this period of the calendar is that the cultural week shoots off. A couple of ‘days’ like Rose day and Chocolate day are announced, with notice-boards full of hand-made posters matching the color of a flower with social progress, and different chocolate bars with coinciding relationship levels. All this gives a free pass to a handful to have some harmless fun. But hey, with Valentine’s around the corner, I just need to mention that any couple who can make it through the ups and downs of a med-school love story - with more downs, than ups – well, they’re almost there. Because, hell, it’s really difficult to imagine things get any worse.

SYMBIOSIS

Far away from the maddening crowd, it seemed that the Symbi crowd on the hill was very far from theValentines mood also. The public expression of love definitely gave a miss on the post graduate campusbut that still didn’t deter the spirits of the couples who kept their V-day plans private. Also, the vivacityand excitement of the undergraduates everywhere else was absent as mature conversations or a cosydinner was the preferred choice. Love they say is a way of life, it surely is this way for Symbians!!
