New Delhi: The Reserve Bank Of India today decided to issue notes for Rs 99 in honor of Sachin Tendulkar. This is the first announcement by the governor of the RBI which did not involve interest rates to be hiked.
Taking time off from deciding the next interest rate hike the RBI governor today announced at a press meet that the Bank had decided to issue notes for Rs 99 in honor of Sachin Tendulkar who has for the past 8 months failed to score his 100th century. The new notes are expected to have Sachin’s photo instead of the Gandhi’s. It must be noted that Sachin last scored a century in the world cup in March against South Africa and since then the world has been waiting breathlessly for a century.
“This way be are not only honoring Sachin but also decreasing inflation. This way people will carry Rs99 in their pocket. This is less that what they carry now i.e Rs 100. So this way they will have less money in their pocket resulting in less buying power and lowering demand. This will bring down the inflation.” said the RBI governor when trying to explain the economics behind such a decision. He said this was the last ditch effort by the Bank which had recently lost a number of Fans on its Facebook page after increasing the interest rates at will in its bid to decrease inflation.
Fans have shown mixed reactions to the decision. One fan said ” This is all bullshit. It is just a matter of time before he scores his 100th century. He will do it before petrol reaches Rs100.” Another fan was ecstatic at the decision. ” This is awsm. It is not always that you get a note dedicated to you. this is a huge honor for Sachin.It will only add to his list of achievements.”
Not just the RBI but India Post has also decide to acknowledge the greatness of Sachin by issuing stamps with the Master Blasters Photo priced at Rs9.9. A lot of other companies have also decided to join the band wagon that is Sachin Tendulkar. A renowned Soft Drink manufacturer has decided to take out 99 limited edition cans to celebrate Sachin’s ninth month on 99 centuries while a renowned telecom company also associated with him has decided to come up with Rs 99 talk time recharge which will give the user Rs100 worth of talk time.
